June 2008

Jayne and I really are going to meet the Hewletts in London this weekend, and we’re both really excited about it.

I am in the process of packing right now (no really, I just printed out my eTickets!)

There may not be any new posts for a couple of days, as my PC is not a laptop.

However, the three of us have posted a lot of new material this week, so you should have plenty to read.

Have a nice weekend, and if you’re going to MTH, see ya there!

First of all I would like to thank Kassandra aka Mackenzie’s Momma for the amazing banner she designed specially for me, and to apologise if the site was difficult to use at the weekend while I was playing with banners and style sheets.

Today I have done part 8 of the Lycan amulet, which means that it is now officially the longest story I have ever written.

Barcardicider has convinced me that I should put “Teyla’s story” on fanfiction.net, so I will give you a link when it’s sorted.

Finally for those of you who remember my friend at work who wanted to run his car on chip fat oil, I have an update: This morning he used his dad’s Corsa with a roughly 50:50 mix of supermarket cooking oil and diesel. He made it in to work in one piece and is now feeling very pleased with himself LOL.

I took bsquirrel to a surprise birthday party last night for one of his two best friends. Well I say party, perhaps the term gig would be more appropriate. You see bsquirrel’s friend’s mum’s boyfriend is the drummer in a band called Back Track, and the band agreed to do a couple of sets for the party. Bsquirrel has heard them before, as he sometimes watches them rehearse, but this was the first time I had heard them and I have to admit it was pretty awesome. Esp when the bass player asked me up onto stage to help sing the chorus of Highway to Hell, (I don’t think my mike was switched on. I am not a good singer.)

Anyway, I found a vid of them on youtube. It doesn’t really do the band justice, but it will give you an idea:

As you know, I am a keen reader of SGA fan fiction.

Tonight I am taking some time off to read stories by a friend who publishes as Ferryman.

You squirrels will also know her as Mirth.

NB Please read the warnings. This isn’t fluffy candyfloss squirrel fic. Some of it is quite dark.

Also here is a link to barcardicider’s stuff, for NCSI, in case you are a fan of that show too.

My son b_squirrel had to write a poem for his homework tonight.

Like any proud parent, I couldn’t resist posting it on my blog. Don’t worry, I did ask him first LOL.

The girl next door

Her hair is like straw
Her teeth are like brick
Her teeth shatter windows
Her heart is like stone
Her eyes are like arrows
Her legs are like sticks
Her hair is as slimy as spaghetti
Her glare is like bullets
Her nails are like small knives
Her ears are like bats
Her stench is lethal
Her greed is outstanding
Her voice is like sirens
Her smile is blood red
She is as tall as Mount Everest
She is as evil as Dracula
She steals off small kids

Had an odd conversation at work today. My mate Alyn is rather keen to convert his car to run on chip fat. It’s become a rather more pressing need recently with the increases in fuel prices, and a new family on the way.

He’s done the research, and he’s pretty sure it will work.  Apparently, all you have to do is collect some old chip fat, process it as recommended on the web site, and you have home made biodiesel The big question is, will he save a packet or kill his car?

All I know is, they won’t be using it to run the puddlejumpers any time soon.

Jayne posted a link on ADB that made me laugh:

Why is it there aren’t enough hours in the day anymore?

Yesterday on dGeek, nanook/fran started a new thread called

The quest for the missing squirrel king’s dog

This is a piece of collaborative fan fiction, with, as far as I can tell, no rules apart from it must be age appropriate to the forum. So no swearing then, even when that naquada bomb was about to go off in my face…….. Sorry, I digress.

Basically the story is that David Hewlett’s dog Mars has been kidnapped, and it’s up to us the squirrels to save him. So far its me, Jayne Perry and nanook.

Jayne has asked to be in one of my squirrel fics. Well guess what Jayne, looks like we are in a fic together, and its going to be a bumpy ride LOL.

Oh and while I’m at it, how did you operate that life signs detector?. Do you realise what that IS? or what it MEANS? Kassandra is going to want to have a word with you when the quest is over. LOL.

Its a lot of fun collaborating with other writers because you have completely no idea where this is going, or if we are ever going to find Mars! Also if you run out of ideas you can stop and let someone else pick it up, then dive back in when you have something to say.

Of course I will have to make sure it does not cut into my time writing my own fic. Which reminds me, was chatting to Kassandra was chatting to me last night about area 51 parties, blue jello and “The Major” and it reminded me of that time when the Major and Radek Zalenk  came to one of our area 51 parties…..

Story to be posted shortly (if I finish it LOL).

I’m having a day off work today because my son is feeling sick. I used it to do a bit more work on the site, and to publish part 5 of my story the Lycan Amulet. Also I have been helping my son to create an avatar for his profile on dGeek.

I thought I would share with you this link to a story by friendshipper, also known as Sholio. I have been reading it this afternoon and I thought it was really good.

Another of her stories that I love is this one:

I have been adding some links to the blog roll for some of the sites where I read fan fiction, including wolfie’s site and Leesa Perrie’s site. So you will have something to read while you are waiting for the next part. Yes I mean you Kimberly!

I have published this for a friend who is building a model of the gate room.

OK I confess, I haven’t been stuck in front of my PC all evening. It was a lovely sunny day, so after I dropped my son off at cricket, I decided to drop in on mum and dad.

When I got back I found Kassandra had left me some handy blogging tips, so I have just been online to download Windows Live Writer. Now I have a really cool offline editor, which I can use to update my blog. Big thanks Kassandra. Some Karma will be coming your way?

The best bit is that it has a nice BIG editing window. Anyway this was really a test post. I promise I will get on with some stories eventually, but I’m having so much fun playing with my new blog.
